児童書（図鑑）

The cold-blooded crocodile lied in the mud, camouflaged as a log. For long periods it is motionless, saving its energy. Then an unsuspecting antelope comes close to the water’s edge. Suddenly, with a vast burst of energy, the crocodile leaps out of the water, seizes the antelope, and drags it beneath the surface. Afterwards, the crocodile can go back to its sluggish ways, eating the prize at its leisure.

変温動物のワニは、泥水に身を沈め、丸太のふりをしていました。長いことじっとしたまま、体力を残しておくのです。すると、なにも知らないアンテロープが岸辺に近づいてきました。とつぜん、ものすごい勢いでワニが水面から飛び出し、アンテロープにがぶりとかみつき、水中へと引きずりこみます。それから、ワニはいつものゆるゆるとした調子にもどり、ゆっくりと戦利品を味わいます。
